Timing Chains
Currently there is great debate about which chain is the best. To set the
record straight and get some facts into the argument read the following
comparison.
Both Rolon and IWIS chains comply with AS 1352-1974 which is the standard
for automotive chains set down by Standards Australia. The Rolon chain has
a breaking load of 40.4 kN while the IWIS is 41.1 kN (Amdel report 97L4607Rev1),
which shows that both exceed the standard breaking load of 16.9 kN. This
means there is a 1.7% difference between the two chains, which, over this
range of loads is minimal.
So, what does this mean? It means that the Rolon chain is basically the
same, but is around 20% cheaper. So which chain do you reckon is
best?
